In the summer of 2010, a Virginian may purchase a single credit hour of an undergraduate class at the College of William and Mary for $240; students who cannot legally claim residency in the state of Virginia must pay $880 for one hour of the same class. The explanation does not lie in the comparative difficulty of teaching a Californian rather than a Virginian - the professor would no doubt deliver the same lecture even if the class were made up entirely of residents of Montana - or of Ireland.

One night a few weekends ago, my best childhood friend came into town, which was reason enough to go out and celebrate. We decided to grab a quick dinner first and catch up with each other before heading out for the night. Our waiter came over to the table and mentioned that all pints were $3 until 10:00PM, which was a deal that neither one of us could resist.

The Global Film Festival excited many students at first for one main reason: the free entertainment factor. But while the fact of free admission may have initially drawn some viewers, it was the talent of the filmmakers that got them to stay. All of the filmmakers involved in the Community Documentary Project, which was the festival's opening event on Thursday, February 18th, were William and Mary students, enrolled in an advanced documentary filmmaking course.

When I hear the term "cult favorite" in reference to a film, I am usually wary of going out in public to see that particular movie. For me, the term "cult favorite" implies having to view a film alongside its pack of rabid fans, ready to cut you if you can't recite every line of the screenplay to them.

Reviews of predominantly musical films - particularly of the emerging genre of the "band documentary" - often devolve into reviews of the sound that defines them. So let me preface this review with a statement of full disclosure: I love Sigur Ros.

I love everything about them, in fact.

The events of the 2010 William & Mary Global Film Festival appealed to a myriad of Williamsburg residents, students and non-students, with different tastes and preferences. The festival's theme this year was that the context of music can provide a powerful thread that makes people around the world connect.

If all the huffing and puffing about 'the death of the album' turns out to be true, and 99 cent iTunes downloads, mash-up obsessions and ADD musical attention spans have indeed supplanted the longer pop form, The Golden Archipelago may go down in history as one of its last great works.

It was the fashion scene of the year. Blockbuster movies were represented. Outfits ranged from classy to trashy. Even the Olympics made an appearance. This is not the Academy Awards. It's even better. It's Campus Golf.

Kappa Delta's charity event Campus Golf has become the equivalent of a school holiday.

Last time, we talked about the temptations that many encounter on this campus. While we focused mainly on the physical temptations for men, we recognize that women face them too. Instead of nice legs, women more often are tempted by sweet words and a great sense of humor.

Fall recruitment round-table proposals were recently introduced by the Inter-Sorority Council (ISC) with little mention, and are sure to pass with great ease. The new rules and restrictions are the latest in the never-ending series of recruitment regulation by the ISC - normalizing each sorority under the banner of "William and Mary Greek Life.

The Office of Community Engagement and Scholarship held their "Stand up!" campaign last week. Curious about what exactly my tuition was funding, I went to their website to see what the OCES was created to do. What I found was a vast number of words that did not seem to say much.

Over the past few weeks, I've had the unknowable pleasure of sitting in on Student Assembly Senate meetings as a news writer for this paper. What with the whole affectation of modeling government and the general air of time-wasting, it is indeed beyond me how anyone could be anything but deeply amused.

Of the three main types of skin cancer, Malignant Melanoma is the deadliest. Squamous cell carcinoma and Basal cell carcinoma are the other two main types of skin cancer, and although they are not as deadly as melanoma, both can be very disfiguring.

The Faculty Assembly discussed in its meeting on February 23 a proposal to increase the target size of the incoming freshman class by fifty students. We do not think that this is a good idea for two reasons. First, it will not achieve its aim of substantially increasing the College's fiscal stability, and second, it will divert attention from policies that would best control cost without affecting the College's front-line academic services.
